TTT Foundation Course, 11th and 12th September, 2024 IN PERSON

September 11 - September 12

What is the Foundation Course and how does it work?

The course is designed to explore the theory and then demonstrate the very practical applications of the 10 foundational Components of the Thinking Environment®.

Everything you’ll experience is designed to stimulate and support the thinking of each person in a group or meeting, resulting in better communication, deeper understanding, more effective decision making and more energy.

Beginning with specific ‘building blocks’ such as Thinking Pairs and Rounds we build up to a full practice meeting and a Time to Think Council, putting everything into place.

This is vital expertise for coaches, leaders and managers, for anyone looking to create workshops and learning modules, and is exceptional professional development.

  • To identify and explore the 10 Components and the related behaviours that establish a Thinking Environment®
  • To examine the ways in which everyday communication structures such as meetings, discussion, presentations, facilitation, resolving conflict, and working with colleagues and staff can be transformed into clear-thinking, invigorating, positive experiences
  • To practice the building blocks of Thinking Pairs, Rounds, Open Discussion and Dialogue using ‘live’ topics of immediate value to you
  • To experience a Transformed Meeting,  a Time to Think Council and a Thinking Partnership Session
  • To leave energised, refreshed and committed to using some or all of this in your workplace and life

What about the venue?

The Common Room at the Grange is a very large and airy space, with 3 huge windows looking over the Common, which can be opened easily to maximise fresh air.  We will sit in a comfortably large circle, or round a long table, and do everything sensible to maintain a good level of hygiene and safety throughout the days.

NB It is on the first floor, and accessible via 2 short flights of stairs.

Testimonial from Deborah Dalley in 2022

In my work as a facilitator and coach I had come across several facilitators using elements of the Thinking Environment in their practice and felt that it was something that I would like to understand better, so in 2019 I travelled down to London to attend the Foundation Course facilitated by Ruth McCarthy.

I enjoyed the two days although I did not feel as if I had fully connected with TTT or was anything like as zealous in my enthusiasm as others in the group.  I remember sitting on the train on the way home reflecting on the two days and thinking it was interesting but probably not something that would particularly change my practice.

Over the next few months I was really surprised at how often when facilitating a session or coaching an individual I would find myself using techniques from the Thinking Environment.  Some of my go to questions had become:

– What might you be assuming that is stopping you?

– What more do you think, feel or want to say?

– What is the question inside this topic?

I also realised I was using rounds at almost every meeting I chaired and even encouraging everyone to express appreciation at regular intervals!  Several people commented on how much more productive their meetings had become. It was at this point I decided that I did not want to use the methodology ‘under the radar’ anymore but to train to be a TTT facilitator and help teams transform their meetings.

Once again I attended a course facilitated by Ruth and was lucky to have a truly supportive and fun group to work with.  As the course progressed we all began to appreciate just how powerful the Thinking Environment is and I was expertly led by Ruth to challenge a lot of my own assumptions and internal interference.  I qualified this year and am really enjoying helping others to do their best thinking whilst protecting time and space to do my own.   Thank you Ruth 🙂
